Proofing and Your Responsibility
At Allegra, we take pride in precision - but the final examination for accuracy is your responsibility. Before giving approval, please examine all proofs carefully for the accuracy of information presented including spelling, punctuation, numbers, graphics, colors, sizes and general layout. Our normal production cycle will begin from the date approval is received. We cannot accept changes or approvals verbally.
For color sensitive projects,
a) your color files must be accompanied by a high-resolution color match proof, or b) you must sign-off on a high-resolution color proof provided by us from your files. We accept no responsibility for color accuracy where no color proof has been supplied or signed.
NOTE:
It is not possible for the printing press to exactly reproduce colors as we see them on our monitors.
Clients will receive proofs of their artwork by email unless a hard-copy proof is deemed by Allegra to be required or requested by the client. Final approval must be provided to confirm accuracy before printing.
Requirements for Accurate Output
Resolution
- All file formats must have a minimum of 300dpi (dot per inch) resolution. The images designed for the web are usually at a low screen resolution of 72dpi and are not suitable. Print images need to be created at 300dpi or there will be a substantial drop in the image quality. Large Format prints require a minimum of 72dpi at 100% of the final dimensions.
Full Color Printing
- All color artwork and/or images must be provided in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) color mode. All black & white artwork and/or images must be provided in grayscale color mode. Make sure all black text is 100% black, not a CMYK simulation of black.
What’s a Bleed?
- This is the term used when the color goes to the edge of the document. Please build your files by adding .0625” bleed.
Safety Zone
- All critical elements (text, images, logos, etc.) must be kept at least 0.125” inside the edge. A 0.25” is preferred. Anything too close to the edge may be cut off during trimming.
Borders
- Please allow 1/16” cutting tolerance around your card. We recommend no borders due to shifting in the cutting process, borders may appear uneven.
Raster Graphics
- Raster graphics are bitmap images made up of individual pixels/dots, laid out in a grid. Raster images have a fixed resolution (dots per inch) and lose quality when enlarged. Not recommended for text, as edges will likely appear jagged.
Vector Graphics
- Vector graphics are graphics created with mathematical lines and curves. Vector graphics are resolution independent and scalable. Recommended for text, as edges will be clear and crisp.
Fonts
- Since there are literally thousands of fonts available on both Mac’s and PC’s, it becomes a problem to be sure that everyone has access to the same fonts and can display your images properly. When digital art is supplied with missing fonts, we cannot process your job in production. On both Mac and PC Illustrator files, the answer to this problem is to convert them to outlines. Outlining fonts will allow us to insure text will not shift or default to another font. For Mac InDesign and Quark documents, you may supply the fonts using the programs’ packaging functions. For any Microsoft files, fonts may be problematic and require additional work |
